A reporting checklist for human and animal heart rate variability research

Pflügers Archiv - European Journal of Physiology · 2026
What the research tells us
The authors propose minimum reporting items for human and animal HRV research: recording conditions, raw signals, windows, respiration, artefacts, frequency bands, nonlinear parameters, software and statistics. Animal work additionally requires species, anaesthesia, temperature and postoperative recovery conditions.
Scope & interpretation
This is a narrative methodological review and author-proposed checklist. The consulted text did not describe Delphi consensus or external validation. Complete reporting improves inspectability but does not itself establish device validity, physiological specificity or useful clinical prediction.
