How to read a TAP identifier

TAP-CON-0001 · Project / Publication type / Number within that type

Each type has its own numbered series. English and Chinese share a work identifier; edition versions and review status are recorded separately. The type describes the work, not its evidence certainty or validation status.

The scheme reserves these types for the project’s publication programme. Browse TAP Records to see the works currently available.

Cite the work you used

Use Cite on a concept page, feature, reading note or figure. The panel provides a plain-text reference and BibTeX, RIS and CSL-JSON exports. These records describe the source; they do not claim to implement a particular journal’s house style.

A TAP identifier stays with the work when its title or location changes. English and Chinese editions share a work identifier but carry their own text, version and review record. For a precise quotation or interpretation, cite the archived edition you read. The permanent entry opens a TAP Record linking the current edition, language editions, archived versions and applicable rights.

Authors are listed only when assigned in the publication record. The Allostasis Project is the publisher; that does not make it the author of every work. An identifier or version number is not evidence of peer review, scientific validation or ownership of a scientific concept.

Original research and TAP reading notes

Research Library pages offer separate citations for the original paper and TAP’s reading note. Cite the original paper for its findings, authors and publication details. Cite the TAP note when referring to our explanation or synthesis. A TAP identifier is never a replacement for the paper’s DOI.

A link to a third-party paper does not give TAP rights to that paper, its tables or its figures. Follow the original publisher’s terms and applicable law for those materials.

Versions you can return to

Our archive begins with the text captured on 14 September 2026. Existing version labels are retained. Earlier labels in a revision note do not imply that their full text has been archived. “Captured” is the archive date; “Updated” records the editorial date. We do not reconstruct missing historical editions.

An archived edition preserves the text, references and publication record available at capture. Later substantive corrections create a new edition while the previous one remains accessible. Design, navigation and interactive software may change independently. Figure editions also retain their downloadable files and explanatory recipe.

Scientific review applies only to the language and version stated in the review record. A new edition does not inherit a completed review automatically. Citation exports preserve this distinction; depositing a snapshot does not confer review status.

Two kinds of content. Clear permissions.

Articles, concept pages, reading notes and policy text remain © The Allostasis Project, all rights reserved. Permission is required for reproduction or adaptation beyond applicable legal exceptions. Third-party material remains subject to its own rights holder’s terms.

The TAP editorial & educational reuse permission applies only to editions explicitly carrying that permission notice. This nonexclusive, royalty-free permission covers the marked edition in its stated language. It is a limited permission, not a Creative Commons license or a site-wide open license. An identifier, inclusion in a collection or a previous edition’s permission does not extend it to an unmarked edition.

You may reproduce, distribute and display these marked figures without an individual permission request in editorial news or science reporting, teaching materials and lessons, and noncommercial presentations. Editorial reporting by an advertising- or subscription-supported publisher is included; product promotion, sponsored advertorials and other advertising are excluded.

Currently marked editions

These current editions explicitly carry the TAP permission. Follow the notice and terms attached to the edition you use; earlier marked editions retain their own terms.

Keep the credit with the figure

Retain the figure title, “Source: The Allostasis Project”, TAP ID, version and source URL. Keep the copyright/permission notice, its terms link and the educational scope notes. Use this attribution format with the actual edition details: Source: The Allostasis Project · [Figure title] · [TAP ID] · [Version] · [Edition URL]. Permission: [the terms URL carried by that edition].

The permission includes custom recovery scenarios exported by the official TAP explorer. Preserve the exported parameter values and explanatory labels. Those unitless parameters identify the illustration; they do not turn it into measured physiological data.

Resizing and file-format conversion are allowed when the whole figure and its notices remain legible and unchanged in substance. Do not crop away attribution, redraw or translate the figure, alter its parameters outside the official explorer, change its meaning or remove scientific qualifications under this permission.

Uses that still need permission

Separate permission is required for advertising, product marketing, sponsored promotional content, selling the figures as paid assets or stock graphics, and adaptations beyond the technical changes and official explorer outputs described above. This permission does not grant trademark rights or authorize claims of TAP endorsement.

For a request, identify the work and version, proposed use, audience, distribution channel and intended modifications. Uses outside this limited permission remain reserved unless separately authorized or permitted by law. Nothing here restricts applicable quotation, fair-use or other statutory exceptions.

Follow the terms of the edition you use

The limited permission was introduced on 14 September 2026 with figure editions v1.1. Earlier v1.0 downloads and their rights notices remain unchanged in the archive. Use the new marked edition when relying on this permission; the new terms do not silently replace an old file’s notice.

The permanent TAP record lists current language editions, archived versions, downloads and the terms attached to each displayed edition. Licensing and scientific review are separate: a permission change does not constitute new scientific validation.
