In CHARLS participants aged 45 and older, higher baseline allostatic load and increases over time were associated with subsequent cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality.
What to keep in mind
Observational associations do not prove that lowering an AL score changes risk. Cardiovascular disease was based on self-reported physician diagnosis, and findings do not automatically generalize to younger adults.
