What the research tells us
Higher allostatic load was associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in pooled observational evidence. The size of the association varied substantially between studies.
What to keep in mind
Most pooled estimates had very high heterogeneity (I² above 90%). The associations do not quantify an individual lifespan or the benefit of an intervention that changes an AL score.
