What the research tells us
Across experimental and correlational studies, perseverative cognition was linked to differences in cardiovascular measures, cortisol and HRV. Associations depended on the parameter, design and measurement conditions.
What to keep in mind
Experimental inductions and observational associations answer different questions. The synthesis does not show that any particular thought causes long-term disease or establish one recovery measure.
