Recovery from Work: Advancing the Field Toward the Future
Sabine Sonnentag · Bonnie Hayden Cheng · Stacey L. Parker
Annual Review of Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior · 2022
What the research tells us
This review follows recovery across work breaks, evenings, weekends and vacations. It connects these opportunities with work conditions, boundaries between work and non-work life, and evidence from field and intervention studies.
What to keep in mind
Evidence differs across settings and time scales. A pattern in employee well-being is not automatically evidence about physiological load or the effectiveness of every break activity.
