What the research tells us
After repeated sleep restriction, increasing one night of recovery sleep opportunity improved outcomes, but some deficits remained even with ten hours in bed. The findings describe recovery under this particular laboratory protocol.
What to keep in mind
Time in bed is not actual sleep duration. The study tested one recovery night, so it cannot determine every person’s recovery time or show that additional recovery sleep is ineffective.
